Renaissance Festival

Last weekend we went with the scout troop to the Minnesota Renaissance Festival. This has been one of MustangMan's favorite places since he was a boy. Our family has attended the festival nearly annually and we have taken various friends and extended family along for the ride most of the time. This was the second trip MustangMan planned for the scouts.

The day began at about 4:30 a.m. with a kidnapping. One of the scouts wasn't sure if he wanted to go on the trip and he kept changing his mind. Finally, his dad made him stick to a solid "no" and then quietly requested that his son be kidnapped that morning. It made for a fun start to the day, in spite of the early hour on a Saturday!

It was fun to watch the young men and see what piqued their interest along the way. I also enjoyed watching them interact with the various cast members throughout the realm. One of my favorite moments was watching our Panda and his buddy Z-Attack team up in a sword fight against one of them.


The two boys would trade up for wooden swords later in the day. But, the balloon sword fight was the best!

After spending a good six hours at the festival, the young men requested a trip to the Mall of America. This ended up being a good thing since one family was already at the mall and they were having car trouble. Thankfully, the issue didn't seem to be too serious and the family was later able to find a hotel and then travel to their family get together the following day. It's not really a family trip without at least one emergency anyway. :)
