I was at the Wal-mart check out when I noticed a couple of ladies in front of me with two carts loaded with baby items. I smiled as I remembered making such shopping trips when I ran the Stork's Nest program. My husband would have been shocked to see me speak to these complete strangers. (I rarely do that.) But, to my surprise, I got to meet the current Stork's Nest coordinator and one of her helpers. It was fun to see the look on her face when she asked if I'd ever heard of the program and I got to say that I used to run it. She was shocked!
She asked my name and then I got the biggest warm fuzzy from a complete stranger I think I have ever experienced. "You're [momof5gents]? I've heard so much about you! You were the BEST Stork's Nest Coordinator EVER!"
So sweet! I was happy to hear that she loves being the coordinator. She interned for a semester before getting hired on. She has been there for almost one year now. I'm thrilled to see someone with such excitement for the program. I hope she continues with it and pours her heart into her work. It is a phenomenal program with great potential for changing lives for the better. I still firmly believe in that program.
I love that the women don't just get a hand out. They have to make good choices for their babies through healthy behaviors or parenting education to earn points. The points earned are used to buy items for the baby. This a great place to give your new or gently used baby items, your time, and your money. Wonderful program!
