Being the only female in a whole house of males (including the two dogs...not sure about the hermit crabs), there are certain things I have felt fairly safe in assuming.
One of these assumptions is that if it's pink, it's mine. Pink is my favorite color which I have not shared with anyone in my house.....ever. Even when I was the daughter in the home, I didn't share the color pink. I had one brother who didn't care much for pink. My mom's favorite color is blue, as is my daddy's.
To borrow a quote from Steel Magnolias, "Pink is my signature color."
Panda thinks the color is absolutely toxic. In fact, when he was younger the ultimate insult that Panda gave to his brothers when he was mad was to shout at them, "You PINK!"
When I walked in the door tonight, I saw a pink package sitting on the table. In fact, it was a bundle from Flowerama and it was sitting at my spot. I was so excited!
It had been a long day of classes with a presentation and two exams. I was up until nearly midnight last night studying and back up at 4:30 this morning. My heart skipped a beat at the happiness of having such a thoughtful hubby to bring home roses on this crazy day. At that moment, MustangMan was off to pick up Panda from school. So, I peeked a little but decided to wait to look further until he got home.
Just as I turned around, Moose walked into the room and snickered a little bit. I thought he must be in on the surprise. Then he said to me, "They're [Stormin's]."
What? This did not compute in my head. Moose repeated himself. It took a moment for my brain to catch up. Pink...my house...my spot at the table...for Stormin'? Then I remembered that I am the mother of a teenager with a girlfriend. I then assumed the flowers were for Lovely. I went back into the dining room to admire the pretty flowers and smiled at the thoughtfulness of my son. Oh, it's so sweet. (Even if they're not my roses. *sigh*) I'm glad that he's such a good gentleman.
Soon Stormin' was in the room and I told him they were lovely roses. I also teased him a little about putting them in my spot at the table.
He wasn't amused. I was also wrong again. These roses weren't FROM Stormin', they were FOR Stormin'. And Lovely had given them to him just as two carloads of his buddies drove by after school. He could appreciate the sentiment and all, but wasn't so happy about the delivery timing. Boys!
Being the kind son that he is, Stormin' agreed to let me put the roses on the table and to "share" them with him. They are beautiful.
As I admired the roses, I realized it wasn't the first time something had entered the house that I assumed to be a "girl" thing, but then was caught by surprise. I glimpsed the china hutch sitting in the dining room. I remember being so excited when my hubby bought that and brought it home. I had somewhere to put my pretty dishes! But, alas, the display area was for a portion of his car model collection. The dishes are in the bottom cupboards. Go figure.
I'm sure this is not the last surprise in store for the queen of this house. Until next time...

How funny! I was laughing out loud! I remember when I was first married and Michael was in Primary (I was a teacher). He had the nicest voice! He was such a sweet kid, even back then!
